Outlined below are a number of procedures and settings which we recommend when
experiencing problems with internet access. |

Hardware & Software Requirements |
|
Library recommendation of minimum hardware & software:
*Some specific databases are designed for
Internet Explorer. We recommend the use of the latest
version of any browser for use with databases. Online videos
require the setting up of a a
DRM
(Digital Rights Management) license only possible on the later
versions of Internet Explorer (7.0+).

General Settings |
- Select Tools from the main menu
- Select Internet Options... from the
drop-down menu
- Click on the
tab
- The General screen will appear.

Click on the
button in the Browsing History section - the Delete
Browsing History screen will appear.

Tick the Temporary Internet files box.

Click on the
button.
-
The Browsing History will then be deleted and you will return to the
General screen.

Click on the
button - the Settings screen will appear.

Ensure that Check for newer versions of stored pages:
is set to Automatically.

Click on the

Security Settings |
- Select Tools from the main menu
- Select Internet Options... from the
drop-down menu
- Click on the

- If not already selected, click on the
button in the Security level for this zone
section menu - ensure that the section selected is the
Internet.

- The Security level for this zone will
appear. Ensure it is set to Medium.
Use the slider to change the setting if required.

- Select Tools from the main menu
- Select Internet Options... from the
drop-down menu
- Click on the

- The Privacy screen will appear.
Ensure that the Settings are set to
Medium. Use the slider to change the
setting if required.

Also ensure in the Pop-up Blocker section that
Turn on Pop-up Blocker is NOT selected.
This can impair the operation of some databases.

Click on the
button - the Advanced Privacy Settings screen
will appear.

Ensure that the Override automatic cookie handling
tick box is NOT selected.

Advanced Settings |
- Select Tools from the main menu
- Select Internet Options... from the
drop-down menu
- Click on the

- The Advanced Settings screen will appear.

Scroll down to the Security section at the bottom
of the list.

Ensure that both Use SSL 2.0 and
Use SSL 3.0 are ticked.

Untick the Warn about certificate address mismatch*.
- Click on the
button.

Pop-up Blocker |
A number of databases require the use of active pop-ups, therefore pop-ups must
not be blocked.
- Select Tools from the main menu.
- Select Pop-up Blocker from the drop-down
menu.

- If the pop-up blocker is on, select Turn Off
Pop-up Blocker

- Once the blocker is turned off, you will see the following:

Compatibility View Settings (Internet Explorer 8+ Only) |
Some web pages will not display properly (missing or blocked sections of the
screen) if the Compatibility View is not set to all web sites.
- Select Tools from the main menu.
- Select Compatibility View Settings from the
drop-down
menu.

- The Compatibility View Settings pop-up will appear
- Select the Display all websites in Compatibility View tick box

- Click on the
button
to finish.

- Ensure that there is a tick in both the Browsing
History, Cache and
Authenticated Sessions tick boxes.
- Click on the
button.
- This will return you to the main Options screen.
- Click on the
button.
