Locating Theses: A Guide

PhD and Masters by Research theses are required by University regulations, to be deposited with the University Library, the University Archive, and with the School/Centre in which the candidate conducted the work. It is also compulsory to lodge an electronic copy with either of (or both) the following websites: Australian Digital Theses Program (ADT) and Eprints Repository. Once you lodge your thesis online it will appear when you search Google. For more information about lodging an electronic copy of your thesis please speak to the relevant Faculty Librarian based at your campus.

Copies of Honours and Higher Degree Coursework (minor) theses are kept by the School/Centre in which the student was enrolled. Access to these theses is dependant on conditions imposed by the relevant School/Centre. Contact should be made directly to the School concerned.

VU Library has copies of theses for loan. If a thesis cannot be located in the Library or the School, contact the University Archivist. If held by the Archives, arrangements can be made to make the archive copy available for viewing under supervision.
