17. VPN CLIENT

17.1 DOWNLOADING VPN CLIENT

17.1.1

To download the latest VPN Client you must visit the ITS File Downloads site.
Please click on the link provided above.

This should take you to the Victoria University intranet. If you are accessing this page from home you will need to login. To login, please enter your LDAP username and password (This is the same username and password you use to login to WebCT).

Once you have logged in, the intranet page will appear. Scroll down till you see Victoria University - Virtual Private Network Client (VPN) as displayed in the picture above. Here you will see the VPN client downloads underlined. You will need to choose the appropriate version of the VPN client for your operating system. If you are using a Windows operating system, you will choose from 32-Bit or 64-Bit on the left. If you are using a MAC operating system, you will choose the appropriate version of MAC on the right. There is currently no VPN Client available for Linux.

Once you have clicked on the appropriate version of VPN client. The following download dialogue box will appear. Click on Save.

Select where you would like to save the download folder and then click Save. Please make sure you save it somewhere that you can easily find it as you will have to find it for the next part of this guide.

17.2 INSTALLING VPN CLIENT

17.2.1

Once you have downloaded the VPN client. Open the folder.

Double-click on vpnclient_setup.msi. This will begin the installation.

The installer dialogue box appears. Click the Next button to continue.

Click on the check box stating I accept the license agreement and then click Next.

Click Next to continue the installation.

Click Next again to continue the installation.

Click Finish to complete the installation.

Once you have completed the installation you will be asked to restart your computer. Click Yes to continue (please make sure to save anything that you were working on before you click Yes).

17.3 CONNECTING VPN CLIENT

17.3.1

To open the VPN Client, click on Start > Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > VPN Client.

Highlight VicUni Student Access and then click on Connect. See image below.

After you click connect you will be asked to enter your username and password. Your username is your Student ID with an "s" in front and your password is the same password you use to login to your student.

After you have entered your username and password, click OK.

17.3.4

An authorization message will appear, click Continue to connect to VPN Client.

Once you have connected, you will see a yellow padlock icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. This will let you know that the VPN client is connected. See image below.

To disconnect from the VPN Client, simply right click the yellow padlock icon and select Disconnect. See image below.
