Search All Databases |
Look for more electronic journal articles on your topic in databases not
included under the Journal/Magazine Articles link
- select the subject area for your topic (for example Business Commerce and Economics)
- select a particular database (for example Emerald
Fulltext)
- enter your user name (VU ID) and password (library PIN)
- type your keywords or phrase into separate search
boxes (Search hints are at the end of this guide)
- optional - limit your search to full-text articles (whole article is available
to read/print on the computer)

- Click on the link labelled PDF Full Text
or HTML Full Text and then follow the
hyperlinks through to the article.
Full-text NOT available:
- If an article is not available on screen in full text, you can
request an electronic copy.
Select Document Delivery and follow the
instructions.

Citation Databases |

Citation databases allow you to see how often authors or articles have been
cited by other authors after publication.

Using Email Alerts and RSS To Keep Up To Date
|
|
Email alerts/RSS feeds allow you to stay
informed about:
- new articles published on your topic
- newly published issues of your favourite journals
Many databases also allow you to save searches so you can update your
literature review as often as you like without creating a new search. For
instructions on setting alerts, look under Help once you have connected to
the database. |

Use RefWorks to manage your bibliographies and citations.

- allows you to create your own personal database by importing
references from text files or online databases
- can use these references in writing bibliographies for papers
- can automatically format the paper and the bibliography in 490

For Searching All Electronic Sources Except Google |
- List the most important keywords (search terms) of your topic
- Combine more than one keyword with "and" (for example: sport and
administration)
(If you have more than one keyword, you can put each keyword into a
separate search boxes on some databases)
- A phrase may be used (for example: business communication and
change)
- Use a truncation symbol (*) if the keywords can be singular or
plural (for example: sport* will find all words beginning with
sport... sport, sports, sporting)
