Inserting Encore Search Widget in Blackboard/WebCT
It is possible to insert a widget for the new Library search interface (Encore).
Insert search page

If you would like to insert an entirely separate search page:

  1. Right click on the .htm link above, select Save target As... from the menu and save the file to your desktop.
  2. Save the icon in a similar fashion.
  3. Log onto Blackboard/WebCT: http://webct.vu.edu.au
  4. We recommend loading and saving the file into My Files - where it can then be used in multiple courses (if required).
    1. Click on the tab.
    2. Click on the button displayed in the main frame.
    3. The Content Browser window will open.
    4. Click on the icon.
    5. Locate the encorewidget.htm file on your desktop, highlight filename and click on the button.
    6. The content (file) should then copied into your My Files folder.
  5. Click on the tab to return to the main screen.
  6. From the Course List panel, select a course to which you would like to add the widget.
    1. Click on the tab.
    2. Click on Course Tools under the Course Content section in left sidebar.
    3. Click on the button displayed in the main frame, and select from the drop-down menu.
    4. The Content Browser window will open.
    5. From the tab, add a tick into the encorewidget.htm tickbox in the content window and click on the button.
    6. The widget search page will be added to the home page of Course Content.

  1. To modify the link icon:
    1. Click on icon and select from the drop-down menu.
    2. Click on the button.
    3. Locate and upload encore_arrow.gif (instructions as above).
    4. Click on the button.
    5. The icon will then be change to:

The link is now available for use.

Insert widget onto an existing page

If you would like to insert a widget on an existing html page already loaded into WebCT/Blackboard (a basic knowledge of HTML is necessary):

  1. Log onto Blackboard/WebCT: http://webct.vu.edu.au.
  2. Click on the tab.
  3. From the Course List panel, select a course to which you would like to add the widget.
  4. Click on the tab.
  5. Go to the file you wish to edit.
  6. Click on the icon next to the file, and select from the drop-down menu.
  7. Click on the button if this is activated.
  8. Click on the .txt link above.
  9. Copy the displayed code and paste it into the html code on the Edit File screen. NOTE: You must paste the code between the <body> </body> tags to be visible.  You may have to move the code several times to place it in the desired position.
  10. Click on the button.

The search page widget has now been added to this page.
