The Library was thrilled to be the awarded a Vice Chancellor's Citation for Outstanding Service to Victoria University for 2006.

The award is for successfully creating a student-centred learning environment with the implementation of the VU Information Commons that caters for a diverse range of learning styles and provides access to cutting-edge learning technologies, professional expertise and support.

The library was fortunate to receive one of five citations for this category.

The successful team of library staff who received the citation were (pictured from left to right):

  • Laura Maquignaz (Project Manager)
  • Jane Miller (Project Officer)
  • Kim Tairi (Marketing)
  • Jennifer Tripp (Logistics)
  • Cathy Wati (Administration - not pictured)

The team was responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Information Commons across 11 campus libraries. Since the project was completed in mid-2005 visits to the library increased by 38%. The Information Commons offers a one-stop shop for students wanting to access resources, professional support and state-of-the-art ITS facilities.

The Information Commons project was a team effort and would not have been possible without the support of ITS (Information Technology Services), Facilities Management and all the Library staff who helped make project a success.

Since this award winning project, the Library and other areas of the University has built on the Information Commons concept to implement VU’s first Learning Commons at City Flinders. Further information on this University-wide initiative is available from this site.
