Databases
assist in locating journal literature without having to browse
through print journal issues to find relevant articles. Some
databases also index conference papers and book chapters.
Your
search will return a list of results, or records. Each record
consists of a citation, that is:
- the
author of the article
- the
title of the article
- the
journal publication in which you can find the article
Most
records will also contain an abstract, or short summary of the
content of the article, and some databases also have full text
access, for all, or selected journals indexed by the database. Full
text means that you can print or download the full content of the
article to your workstation.
Most
databases offer the choice of printing or downloading in a text
format or a scanned format using PDF files. To open a PDF file, you
will need a computer with at least 32 Mb, I.E. 5.0 or later or
Netscape 4.6 or later, and Adobe Reader 4.0 or later.
Adobe
Reader can be downloaded free from the Internet. To download or
