Full Text Databases
Databases assist in locating journal literature without having to browse through print journal issues to find relevant articles. Some databases also index conference papers and book chapters.

Your search will return a list of results, or records. Each record consists of a citation, that is:

  • the author of the article
  • the title of the article
  • the journal publication in which you can find the article

Most records will also contain an abstract, or short summary of the content of the article, and some databases also have full text access, for all, or selected journals indexed by the database. Full text means that you can print or download the full content of the article to your workstation.

Most databases offer the choice of printing or downloading in a text format or a scanned format using PDF files. To open a PDF file, you will need a computer with at least 32 Mb, I.E. 5.0 or later or Netscape 4.6 or later, and Adobe Reader 4.0 or later.
