Services Available to Offshore Financial Alumni Members
The VU Alumni Community supports alumni in many countries throughout the world.  VU has graduates in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, India, China, USA, Italy and throughout Australia.
Access to Electronic Resources
  • Alumni patrons have access to selected electronic resources when they become financial members of the alumni community.
    These include:
    • Electronic resources where no authentication process is required.
    • Electronic Resources that specifically permit access by Alumni of Victoria University by special arrangement.

Access to these electronic resources will require authentication using alumni ID number/barcode and PIN.

When logging onto online resources, ID Number = complete Alumni library barcode number.
Joining the Alumni Community
For special access to the VU Library, alumni must become financial members of the VU Alumni Community. For more information about joining, please visit: www.vu.edu.au/alumni/membership

Membership options include 1, 3 and 5 years. Fees are paid to Alumni Relations in the VU Development Office. No VU campus library will accept enrolments or fee payments.

Financial members then receive access to a range of member benefits including special access to the VU library. Current access rights are detailed above.

Alumni library access does not include access to BONUS+ or CAVAL or National Reciprocal borrowing schemes.

Access will also be available to selected electronic databases where authentication will be required using ID number or barcode and PIN.
Eligibility
Patrons are considered an alumnus of Victoria University if they have been either a graduate, student, teacher or administrative staff member of the following institutions:
  • Victoria University
  • Western Melbourne Institute of TAFE
  • Western Metropolitan College of TAFE
  • Western Institute
  • Footscray Institute of Technology
  • Gellibrand College of TAFE
  • Footscray College of TAFE
  • Newport College of TAFE
  • Flagstaff College of TAFE
  • Footscray Technical College
  • Footscray Technical School

Some of these amalgamations date back to the early 1920’s.
Joining the Victoria University Library
Joining Requirements
  • You need to be an financial (paid) member of the alumni community before you can access VU libraries
  • You must be able to display a barcoded Alumni membership card
  • If you are currently enrolled as a student/staff you cannot enrol as an Alumni member. You must only have one record
  • The Application for Library Membership form can be found here.
  • You can apply for library membership using the online application form (you will become eligible to use your card and access e-resources within 24 business of application).
Appropriate Use

General Guidelines (Applicable to all electronic services):

Use of this service including the viewing, printing and downloading of individual articles is permitted for the purposes of private study, teaching and research. This does not include the systematic downloading, copying or printing of  significant portions of the licensed content (eg. entire issues of individual journals). Undertaking this type of activity constitutes a serious breach of both copyright and licence agreements and may result in legal action or termination of the University's access to this product. Use of this service for commercial gain is strictly prohibited.

The conditions described above are intended as general guidelines. Specific licence conditions may be outlined on the individual database or journal web site under a heading such as "Terms and Conditions", "Terms of Use", "Licence Agreement" or something similar. It is important that you read and observe these terms and conditions.
