Electronic Book Search
Locating Electronic Books
  • Electronic book titles are included in the catalogue like any other book - instead of a call number they usually have a hyperlink, enabling you to connect to them. You can search by keyword, author or title like a print book.
  • The different suppliers have slightly different ways of helping you navigate through your selected title. When you do a catalogue search, it can be useful to tell which supplier the title comes from and follow the instructions for how it works.
  • The catalogue record tells you where the ebook you select is from
e.g. As in the example - the catalogue record shows the record to be an EBL (Ebook Library) title.

  • James Bennett E-Titles will mention: James Bennett Etitle: as the URL link or as "Alt Title" at the bottom of the record.

When the session has expired a warning message will be displayed:

  • Click the button to loan the book for 24 hours , otherwise click the button to end the session.

A loan provides you with unlimited access to the eBook for a period of 24 hours after it has been checked out.

Copying and Printing from an Ebook

The DRM restrictions on each e-book in the library restrict the amount of content that you can print and copy when you read an e-book online. Similar restrictions apply when you read e-books offline.

When you read an e-book online you can copy the contents of a selection to the clipboard in preparation for pasting it into another document. You can also print selections from the e-book. The EBL records your use of these features for an e-book and the reader prevents you from printing and copying when you have reached the respective limits.

To help you see how much of your allowance you have left, look at the printing and copying gauges in the online reader toolbar. Each dot on the gauges represents 20% of your allowance. As you use the features, the dots change colour.

You may print up to 20% and copy/paste up to 5% for each title ONLY.  DO NOT attempt to exceed the printing limits - this will lock you out of being able to print altogether.
